Fall/Winter Rehearsal Schedule

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you will join us in our excitement as we begin our instrumental music programs for the 2014-15 school year!  We are preparing to begin our early morning large group orchestra and band rehearsals.  These rehearsals are required for participation in the concerts.  However, we realize that things happen.  Transporting the children before our school day starts offers some challenges for some of you.  Children may miss a rehearsal for a variety of reasons.  We understand this.  However, in order to prepare the students for a successful performance, they do need to practice together.  To be fair to all, we have decided that each child will be allowed to miss 3 rehearsals and still perform in the Winter Concert at the PAC in January.  More absences could lead to that child not being able to perform.  This decision will be made by the FW Administrative Team along with the musical director, and will be based on the individual circumstances.  Hopefully, it will not get to that point.
Parents will need to provide transportation to the school on rehearsal mornings.  We do not have busses available for this purpose.  You are asked to drop off the children in the front loop of the school and come into the building to sign them in.  A sheet will be set up just inside the front doors for this purpose.  You can drop off your child starting at 7:00 a.mPlease do not drop off any earlier than this as we will not have any supervision for the children until 7:00 a.m.  For safety and security reasons, our front doors will not be unlocked until 7:00.  From 7:00 - 7:15, the young musicians will assemble their instruments, tune, and warm-up.  An administrator will open up the building promptly at 7:00 a.m. to let the children and parents in.  Rehearsals will begin promptly at 7:15 a.m.  Please make sure the children are here by 7:15 so they do not miss the beginning of these important rehearsals.
We understand how difficult it is to get the children up and moving at that time (sometimes equally difficult for us!)  However, their participation in the morning ensemble rehearsals is vital in preparing them for the upcoming concerts.  Participation in our morning, large-group morning sessions helps them to know the music better.  They become more familiar with the sound of their classmates while playing together.  Students that practice together should be more comfortable on “the big stage” at the PAC when they perform in the concerts.
Please refer to the back of this page for the full Fall / Winter schedule in preparation for the January performances.  We are excited to announce something new this year!  Beginning Band & Orchestra will always rehearse on Tuesdays, Vocal Chords will always rehearse on Wednesdays, and Advanced Band & Orchestra will always be on Thursdays.  Hopefully, this will make things a little less confusing than they have been in the past.  Please note:  If we have a delayed opening, the rehearsal for that day will be cancelled.  If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Corvino, Mr. Mastin, or my office.
We look forward to a great season with your talented musicians!

Sincerely,
Mr. Johnson
Principal

Fiddle Fest Ticket Information

May 13, 2013

Dear Parents,

This year marks another stellar year for the Burlington Township School District’s orchestra program.
We are once again celebrating our orchestra with our annual Fiddle Fest. This year’s performance will
be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 6:30 P.M. in the Performing Arts Center. The Annual Fiddle Fest
will feature the Fountain Woods School Orchestra, Burlington Township Middle School Orchestra and
the Burlington Township High School Orchestra. The students are working very hard to make this a
memorable evening.

Due to the number of supporters who attend our shows, we are requiring tickets for this event. There will
be an online form for parents and the general public to order tickets. Fiddle Fest is free, but you will have
to order tickets. Tickets will be sent home with your student on Wednesday, May 21st and Thursday,
May 22nd. Any orders placed after May 20th will be available at the will-call table in the lobby of the
PAC on the evening of the performance.

The online order form will be available beginning Tuesday, May 13, 2014 and will close on May 23, 2014.
You may go online to place your order by visiting the district website and clicking the Fiddle Fest link.

The orchestra students would also like to make a difference in the community. They are asking concert
attendees to bring a non-perishable food item to support the Burlington Township Food Pantry.
Donations can be deposited in the yellow donation bins that will be located in the PAC lobby.

If you have any questions, please contact your child's orchestra teacher. We are looking forward to a
magical, memorable, and musical evening.

Sincerely,

Liz Scott

March Greetings!

March is always a busy time of year for students.  They are faced with extended homework assignments and a full agenda of school activities.  Parental support and encouragement are crucial at this time of year.

When students become overloaded to the point of experiencing stress and pressure, they feel the need to lighten their load.  Unfortunately, students and parents often misinterpret the study of music as an "educational extra" and in an attempt to alleviate the student's time dilemma, set music aside.  It is at best, a short-term solution.

It is important to maintain music studies for two reasons: 1) the personal skills required to handle the challenges of life are actively practiced in music, and 2) the interdisciplinary skills learned in music are identical to those required for success in life.  These skills include working in teams, communication, self-esteem, creative thinking, imagination and invention.

Therefore, the solution to the problem is - more music!

Former Chairman and CEO of  Apple Computer Inc., John Sculley, commented, "As a chief executive of a techology company that thrives on creativity, I want to work with people whose imaginations have been unleashed and who tackle problems as challenges rather than seeing them as obstacles.  An education enriched by the creative arts should be considered essential for everyone."

Every parents wants his/her child to enjoy a life filled with happiness and prosperity.  For all these reasons and more, we want to make certain your child is well prepared for the opportunities of tomorrow.  We strongly encourage the continuation of your child's music studies.  Should the notion of "quitting music" arise in a conversation, contact me immediately.  You can count on my support in explaining the unique advantages of having a lifelong relationship with music.

Your support is a cornerstone in the foundation of our music program at Fountain Woods School.

Concert Information

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding when we had to reschedule our concert.
As you already know, the concert will take place on MONDAY, 1/27.
The students are to arrive at the high school cafeteria at 5:45 pm dressed in their white BT polo shirt, black pants/long skirt and black dress shoes.  Please, no jeans or sneakers.  They are to make sure they have their instrument and all their music.  It would also be helpful if they had something to do while waiting to perform. The concert begins promptly at 6:30.
Our DRESS REHEARSAL will also take place on MONDAY, 1/27 during the school day.  Please make sure your child brings his/her instrument and music to school on Monday.  They do not need to wear their concert clothes and they do not need to pack a lunch.
We will not have any more early morning rehearsals until we being our Spring concert preparations sometime in March.  A new schedule will be forthcoming.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Rehearsal Schedule Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As I’m sure you are aware, the Burlington Township School District has revised its calendar once again due to the recent snow day.  As a result, our 6-day calendar has shifted by one day and consequently our rehearsal schedule has changed.  Please review the new schedule, and contact either of the directors or my office if you have any questions.  Remember, any additional unanticipated closing will move the schedule again. At that time, we will again revise the schedule and send out a new version.  Hopefully, this will not happen, but you never know!  Thank you for your continued flexibility and support of our instrumental music program!

Sincerely,
Mr. Johnson, Principal
